Tailor-Made Training Course on Train-the-Trainer and Course Material Development for Royal University of Phnom Penh Staff in GIS and RS for Disaster Management

Background

Faculty of Geo-InformationScience and Earth Observation (ITC),University of Twente, The Netherlands, Geo-Informatics & Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA)  of Thailand, and Faculty of Engineering of Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) will conduct “Train-the-Trainer and course material development for RUPP staff in GIS and RS for disaster management”.   This training is designed to address the basic skills in GIS and RS with examples that relate to disaster management. Through hands-on examples the participants acquire the skills and they learn about disaster management at the same time. A selected sub-group will continue after the training to rework the training materials into training materials they can use in the BSc curricula. This reworking will be supervised and guided by a local expert with a good understanding of GIS and RS and it will be partially done at GISTDA Thailand. In Thailand the sub-group will receive further training in the use of Remote Sensing data for Disaster Management.  This training aimed to support the selected staff on development of the course materials for the BSc programs with focus on the use of GIS and RS data working with data from different satellites including THEOS satellite.

Participants, 7 people came from academic institution Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia.  In addition, there were international instructors from ITC, University of Twente, GISTDA and UNOSAT.
